HAVAL ready for New Zealand
Chinese SUV brand Haval launched itself into the New Zealand market this week, appointing its first three dealerships, and supplying the first two models of its current range of five vehicles.
The company is introducing the compact H2 SUV and mid-size H6 SUV into the local market in Premium and Lux grades.
Haval Motors New Zealand managing director Koma Li says the brand is very excited to be launching it range of SUVs into the market here.
“vehicles that offer peace of mind motoring”
“This is a country where SUVs continue to rise in popularity,” says Li.
“We are confident our combination of quality product and outstanding value for money will prove popular with local customers,” he says.
Both Haval SUV models have four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines and automatic transmissions. The H2 has a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit and the H6 has a 2-litre four-cylinder unit.
The H2 Premium retails from $25,990 and the Lux from $27,990, while the H6 Premium retails from $30,990 and the Lux from $34,990.
The Premium models offer very high levels of specification, while the Lux models add luxury touches such as man-made leather, heated seats, heated mirrors, bigger alloy wheels, kerbside camera and dual zone climate controlled air conditioning.
Haval’s Prado competitor the 180kW 2-litre seven-seat four-wheel-drive H9 SUV will arrive early in 2018, followed by the refreshed seven-seat 170kW 2-litre H7 SUV later in 2018.
The factory is currently working on autonomous emergency braking for the right-hand-drive H9 cars due to arrive here in the first quarter of 2018.
Auckland-based dealer Andrew Simms will represent Haval in the City of Sails, while Christchurch-based Cockram Group’s Euromarque dealership will take on the Canterbury prime marketing area for the Chinese SUV brand.
Haval is appointing Southern Motor Group as its Dunedin-based representative.
Haval chief marketing officer Tim Smith says the company wants to select dealerships in Whangarei, Hamilton, Hastings, and Palmerston North as its agent.
“We want to have more than nine New Zealand dealerships representing Haval by the end of 2017,” says Smith.
“New Zealand is no different to the rest of the world regarding the global phenomenon that is ever increasing SUV sales, and we want to capture some of that for our brand,” he says.
“We aim to satisfy our customers with a range of vehicles that offer peace of mind motoring and outstanding value for money,” says Smith.
Every Haval comes with a five-year, 100,000km warranty, five-years of roadside assistance and five-year Haval service price guarantee,” he says.
In the Chinese domestic market, Haval is the number one SUV brand selling more than 938,000 units in 2016, in comparison to Honda at number two with more than 540,000.
Auto Media Group briefly drove both the H2 and H6 models around West Auckland yesterday and can report that on first acquaintance the vehicles are quiet and responsive and appear to have high levels of quality in their fit and finish.
A more detailed report on the H2 and H6 will follow in the coming weeks.
